Craddock: Honored to Serve

I have been honored to serve you for the past 22 years as a Virginia State Trooper and now as your Sheriff. It has always been my intention to serve with honesty, fairness, and integrity.

During my first term, we have modernized the Craig County Sheriff’s Department. There is now a new Computer Aided Dispatch center (CAD) which has enhanced not only the 911 capabilities but also the dispatch capabilities to ensure the citizens are getting the best possible services. The Department can respond more efficiently to emergency calls and keep detailed records which allows them to track services provided. Dispatchers no longer have to use handwritten logs, the CAD system captures all data. This is a vast improvement in 911 response and record keeping. Our department has greatly strengthened law enforcement coverage with plans to further increase patrol hours during my next term. Patrols in outlying areas have already been expanded.

I’ve worked behind the scenes to increase not only the starting pay for deputies but also advocated pay raises for all existing employees including dispatchers. It is vital to keep deputy pay competitive with surrounding localities in order to retain quality employees. Our department has requisitioned new, updated police vehicles including a modern animal control truck all while staying within our budget. Deputies have been provided with modern, updated equipment such as new pistols and patrol rifles. Deputy vehicles now have prisoner transport cages that protect our deputies and gun mounts upfront allowing easier access to needed equipment. Each deputy now carries life-saving tourniquets and two doses of Narcan for cases of opioid overdose.

In addition, the safety of our children and our school staff has been at the top of my agenda this first term and will continue to be a priority in my second. I have developed positive working relationships with the superintendent and other school officials. I strive to keep a presence at the school by visiting frequently and addressing issues of concern immediately, giving them my full attention. As a parent myself of a child currently in our schools, I know how important it is to have peace of mind that our students are safe and secure.

Under my leadership, drugs have also been a prime concern for my team. We have been an active member of the Alleghany-Highlands Regional Drug and Gang Task Force. We have served multiple indictments and direct indictments for drug-related charges during my tenure. This work will be continued as long as I am Sheriff to put an emphasis on keeping drugs out of our county.

I’m honored to have the trust and endorsement of Congressman Griffith and Delegate Joe McNamara. Organizations such as the Virginia Citizens Defence League have recognized my commitment to defending our constitutional rights and have also endorsed my candidacy. We’ve accomplished much during my first term and I look forward to continuing this progress with your support on November 5th.

Serving You,

L. Trevor. N. Craddock
Sheriff of Craig County
